Every year we have a contest for the best apple dessert which we serve at Scotian Gold's Annual Christmas Party. This year's winner was Melanie Morine - here's the recipe for her delicious Apple Torte. Enjoy!
Base
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp almond extract
- 1 cup flour
Combine ingredients. Press in 9 inch pan. Bake at 350 degree for 5 minutes. Remove from oven.
Next Layer
Spread with strawberry jam (use about 5 tbsp)
Filling
- 8 ounce cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp orange juice
Beat until smooth and then spread over the jam.
Topping
- 6 medium to large Cortland apples
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- Dash of salt
Mix all dry ingredients in bowl. Add thinly sliced apples. Toss all together in bowl. Spread over the cream cheese filling.. Drizzle orange juice over the apples. Cover with foil and bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes, then 375 degrees for 1 hour.
