An apple for everyone's eye. And taste.

Ambrosia	Details	Best For
	Ambrosia means “Food of the Gods”. Ambrosia is sweet, crisp, juicy and aromatic. Its flavour makes it an excellent apple for slicing. The colour is almost entirely red with a distinctive pink/red blush and faint broad stripes over a creamy white/yellow background. Available from October to February.
Cortland	Details	Best For
	Cortland is a cross between McIntosh and Ben Davis. It has the tart-sweet flavour of Mcintosh and the firm white flesh of Ben Davis. The colour varies from a red stripe over a green to yellowish background to almost completely beet red. Available from September to July.
Crispin	Details	Best For
	Crispin is a cross between Golden Delicious and Japanese Indo. Originally called Mutsu, Crispin is larger than the average apple. It is mildly sweet, very juicy and super crisp. It’s colour ranges from golden yellow to pale green. Available November to May.
Empire	Details	Best For
	Empire is a cross between Red Delicious and McIntosh. It improves on the flavour of Red Delicious, while storing longer than a McIntosh. The colour is red over a slight green background. The flesh is cream coloured, and very dense. It is well suited for the long-term storage. Available from October to June.
Fuji	Details	Best For
	Fuji’s parents are Red Delicious and Ralls Janet, an antique apple that goes back to 1793. The Fuji is very sweet, very juicy and very crispy. Colour can vary from a light red blush to a deep dark red. The flesh is cream coloured. Available from November to May.
Gala	Details	Best For
	Gala has Cox Orange Pippin, Red Delicious and Golden Delicious in its family tree. It displays a striking bright red-yellow colour and has a mild, sweet flavour. The flesh is creamy yellow. Its thin skin makes it a favorite for kids. Available from October to March.
Ginger Gold	Details	Best For
	Ginger Gold is a cross between Golden Delicious and Pippins. They are round with a smooth yellow skin and a red blush. It is a sweet, tangy and juicy apple, making it a preferred apple for eating and for making applesauce. Available from September to October.
Golden Delicious	Details	Best For
	Golden Delicious is a chance seedling, possibly of Grimes Golden. The colour ranges from a greenish yellow to a deep yellow with a red blush. The yellow, crisp and sweet flesh has made this one of the world’s most popular eating apples. Available October to June.
Golden Russett	Details	Best For
	Golden Russett parentage is unknown. It is almost completely covered with a fine yellow russetting. The flesh is fine and has a very distinctive flavour. The Golden Russett was popular before refrigeration, because it could be stored for quite sometime without softening. Available from late October to February.
Gravenstein	Details	Best For
	Gravenstein is a very old variety of unknown parentage. The colour varies from a reddish stripe over a yellow background to almost a solid, bright red over a slight green background. The flesh is crisp, juicy and tart which sweetens over time. Available from early September to November.
Honeycrisp	Details	Best For
	Honeycrisp is a cross between Macoun and Honeygold. The skin colour is mostly red over a yellow background. The apple is exceptionally crispy and juicy. The flavour ranges from mild and well balanced to strongly aromatic, depending on the maturity. Available from October to March.
Idared	Details	Best For
	Idared is a cross between Wagner and Jonathan. The colour is an orange-red blush over a pale green background. The flesh is a white, very form, dense with a flavour similar to Wagner. It maintains its firmness and quality in storage into the summer. Available from October to July.
Jersey Mac	Details	Best For
	Jersey Mac was developed in 1971 from numerous crosses of different varieties. It ripes in mid to late August and is superior to apples it was bred from. It has a bright red blush over a green background with white, sweet and very juicy flesh. Available from late August to mid September.
Jonagold	Details	Best For
	Jonagold is a cross between Jonathan and Golden Delicious and is medium-large, round to oval in shape. The colour is predominately a red blush over a bright yellow background. The flesh is dense, crisp and juicy with superb flavour. Available from early October to June.
McIntosh	Details	Best For
	McIntosh originated as a wild seedling transplanted by John McIntosh. One of its parents was probably Fameuse or Snow Apple. It ranges in colour from a red stripe over a green background to almost completely dark red. The flesh is white, crisp and tart-sweet. Available from September to July.
Northern Spy	Details	Best For
	Northern Spy, or simply Spy, comes from a chance seedling, possibly with Wagner as one parent. The colour ranges from brilliant green with a red stripe to almost completely red. The flesh is yellowish, very fine and juicy with an aromatic flavour. Available from late October to July.
Paulared	Details	Best For
	Paulared was developed in 1967 with unknown parentage but probably with Cortland as one parent. It has bright red blush over a green background. The flesh is white, tart and very crisp. Paulared are at their best in early season. Available from early September to mid October.
Red Delicious	Details	Best For
	Red Delicious comes from a chance seedling of unknown parentage. They are known for their distinctive lobes or “bumps” on the bottom and are almost 100% red. The flesh is greenish-cream, dense, crisp and juicy. Red Delicious is a favourite for eating fresh. Available from late October to July.
Sonya	Details	Best For
	Sonya is a cross between a Gala and Red Delicious apple resulting in an apple that is exceptionally sweet with the flavour of raw sugar cane. The firm texture of Sonya has no trace of acidity. Sonya apples are easy to handle and store and have exceptional shelf life - making it a great tasting apple to enjoy right off the tree and into the winter! Learn more about Sonya apples. Spartan	Details	Best For
	Spartan is a cross between Mcintosh and Yellow Newton. The colour is a deep, solid red with a green background. The flesh is cream coloured, very firm, and fine textured. The flavour of this popular apple is very similar to Empire and Red Delicious. Available from October to July.

Zestar	Details	Best For
	Zestar is a great early season variety. It matures into a bright red apple with some greenish yellow colouring with crisp, white flesh. Like its name suggests, it is zesty with a sweet and tangy - but slightly tart - taste. Available from September to October.
